A few days ago I went to the Museum of Fine Arts to see the Mario Testino exhibit with my brothers and dad. It was crazy good, and I strongly recommend going if you are in the Boson area. However, it was what I saw after the exhibit, coming out of the gift shop (my favorite part of every museum), that is the topic of this post.
Very clever huh? Yes, the statement, and genius way of displaying it did catch my attention. But it was the medium that really triggered those design butterflies in my stomach. Over the last year, I have noticed a huge design trend in neon signs being used in interior design, and I am absolutely OBSESSED with it.
Now, maybe a few of you are thinking "why the heck would you put a neon sign in your living room?" and if you are asking that, is this the neon sign you are picturing in your head?
While that would be a great design decision for my brother's dorm room, (you can find here, Alex) that's not exactly what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about these beauties.
OMG I love 'em! I seriously need one for above my bed, now! What a night-light that would be.
I'm always drawn to interiors that have a fun, whimsical vibe and doesn't take itself too seriously. As the fabulous decorator, Dorothy Draper once said "I always put in one controversial item, it makes people talk." And a clever phrase in neon lights would definitely make people talk.
For a pretty penny, you can purchase your own custom neon sign, from these guys.
