Instructions: spray paint the thing with gold metallic paint.
There are a ton of gold spray paint options out there, but I think the best is Rust-oleum Specialty Metallic Gloss Gold Spray Paint. This one dries to a glossy true gold and doesn't have any brown undertones.

If you aren't into the black bottom shelf, I would suggest getting a piece of glass or mirror cut to put in its place. You could spray it gold, but for some reason, I'm not thinking it would look great.
I've seen this DIY project done several times with all different pieces of Ikea furniture.

So, it turns out, you don't have to sell your kidney to get that expensive golden look. Spray paint is one of my fave things when it comes to making over furniture pieces. It's so easy and makes such a big impact for little cash. I've been thinking of spraying our coffee table, and since the weather is getting nicer now, you may just see another DIY post soon.
