One of my favorite blogs to read is Smitten Studio.

It's written by Sarah Sherman Samuel, a "maker, stylist, and creative director", originally from Michigan, who now lives in California with her hubby and 2 doggies.

I love her blog because her posts are always so original and fun and she has an amazing eye for design. You should definitely check it out. My favorite posts are the ones about her and her husband's new Lake Michigan cabin that desperately needed some TLC. She first introduced us to the cabin in a post last March.

Sarah documented the renovation process on her blog and shared lots of images.

Here's the exterior after it's make over....

I love their decision to paint the entire house black.....and how AMAZING does that green door look against the black?!

This is the floor plan of the cabin. It's small but has a great layout. It's really got everything one needs for a lakeside getaway.

The house's design is very simple and minimal, which allows all the little details to shine. Like the ceiling treatment.

This is it before....

and this is it after.....that looks like one happy ceiling.

They did the entire renovation by themselves, with a little help from family, of course. Here is the kitchen before.....

and here it is after......

They used an under the counter fridge, which was genius and makes it feel very open.

Such a cozy bunk nook for slumber parties with your besties.

So simple but so beautiful. I love the color choices, and that wallpaper is so perfect for a cabin in the woods. The use of sconces as bedside lighting is a good trick when space is tight.

Next is a bit of a scary sight, the bathroom's before shot.....

The living room transformation is my favorite. Here it is before.....

It came out so chic, don't ya think? It feels very restful and serene. They kept the house pretty monochromatic by using only a few colors and materials. Even the furniture and accessories are either black, white, some kind of wood tone or brass.

Sarah and her husband did such an amazing job transforming this little gem. The design is so brilliant - the ultimate example of "less is more".
