LUSTING AFTER: GALLERY WALLS

I'm helping my friend, Katie, design a gallery wall in her apartment and have been looking at a ton of images to get inspiration.

There are a number of ways to hang artwork on your walls, it just depends on how you want your space to feel and look. In a more formal setting, neat and orderly is going to be best. Hang your frames in a clean, simple grid. It's easier to keep all the frames the same color size and shape.

However, an clean, organized look can still be achieved with a variety of different sized frames. This will seem a bit like a puzzle and will most definitely take more time and effort when designing the layout. This type of layout creates a less formal look.

If you have all different sizes, shapes and colors of frames, the best way to hang them is randomly. This creates a more casual 'lived-in' feel in a home. It appears as if artwork and photographs have been added little by little over time. I tend to like this approach best, because of that. It is much easier to add pieces to this type of layout than the other two.

And now, off to design Katie's gallery wall.
